Autumn inspired make up trends

By Celina Mahoney

There’s nothing like a new season to experiment with some different make up looks! We’ve compiled some of our favourites to get you inspired: think warm eyes, berry lips and subtle pops of colour.

Lips

One of the signature autumn inspired trends is a darker lip colour. From a deep berry, to true brown or muted reds, there is shade for every skin tone. It’s the perfect time to swap the everyday nude for something a little more daring. Be inspired by the colours around you, pop into your favourite makeup store and start swatching! If you’re not quite sure where to start, check out Kathleen Light’s video below. She has compiled 15 perfect autumn shades that won’t break the bank.

Eyes

Warm eyeshadow shades have been taking over the makeup world recently, and there’s a good reason why: they compliment dark eyes perfectly and make light eyes pop! Plus there are endless options for creating autumn-inspired makeup looks with these colours. Opt for a well-blended brown smokey eye for a natural day look, or amp it up with pops of burgundy and orange to make a statement. The Maybelline ‘The Nudes’ eyeshadow palette has plenty of warm neutrals for those on a budget ($25.95 from Priceline) or, if you feel like treating yourself, the Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Modern Renaissance’ palette would be a luxurious addition to any collection ($75 from Sephora Australia). Both palettes have a range of colours, allowing you to experiment with different looks for every occasion.

Skin

Although autumn looks generally focus on eyes and lips, having the perfect base is still central to achieving a polished look. If opting for a traditional bold lip or eye, a more natural to matte finish can be a safe option, as it is more likely to last during the day and allow your features to really stand out. However that doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the blush or highlighter either! Adding a warm flush to the cheeks and accentuating the high points of your face will still compliment any autumnal look. Shaaanxo’s tutorial is a great example of how to rock a matte base that still has a gorgeous glow. Plus, if you think you need to choose between a bold lip and a smokey eye, think again! Shannon’s look really has it all going on!
