Bare-faced or bear faced?

We all love a good glam session. Who doesn’t? The process of cleansing, moisturising, priming, and then building your look from scratch—from choosing your colour palette, right down to that last swipe of lipstick—is therapeutic for many.

There’s no better feeling than dolling yourself up after a long day at work.

If you’re not as strict on your night pre-bed routine as you are the beginning of your fun evening out, it’s important you have some days where you just go bare, and let your skin breathe.

Yeah, you might not look as good with a bare-face—I know my bare-face is bear faced—but it might not hurt to give your skin a break.

That means removing all traces of makeup and given your skin the chance to just be. Oils, allergens, preservatives and fragrances from leftover makeup can clog your pores and cause those much-hated breakouts we all know we have.

So it’s always good to start out your makeup-removal routine with a general all-makeup remover: something gentle, especially around the eyes, and sure to strip off the hardest layers of your makeup.

Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water is oil-free (in that it won’t leave your skin with that nasty slick feeling), perfume free and gentle enough that it works well for most skin types.

The 400ml bottle lasts my sister, my mother and I nearly two months, and that’s after generous use and it only costs $14.99 from Priceline Pharmacy.

While micellar water claims to remove all traces of makeup, I always like to follow up with a cleanser and scrub. Goodness Natural Skincare use completely natural and biodegradable ingredients and don’t test on animals – plus they are relatively cheap in the skincare world, at an average of $15 from your local Chemist Warehouse.

Once you’re 100% you’ve removed the last traces any foundation, mascara and highlighter, hit your face with a few drops of a natural oil: Sukin’s Super Greens Facial Recovery Serum promotes an even skintone and hydration. Priceline stocks the entire Sukin line, and offers this baby for only $18.99.

And last but not least, moisturise. It’s so important to keep your skin hydrated, especially through winter when the dry air is more likely suck all the natural moisture from your skin, and when you are slapping on pore-clogging products like primers and foundations.

Goodness’ Every Morning ($16.95) and Every Evening ($19.95) creams are great for both times of the day and will be sure to leave your skin soft and supple.

Follow these tips, and you’ll be sure to have your skin looking fresh and fantastic.
