Best Beauty Buys on a Budget!

Marnie Cohen

We all love makeup… it’s a fact. I have so many lipsticks that I could probably open my own store. While I do have a serious makeup addiction, it’s not always something my wallet can handle. As much as I love high end makeup, I need to get smart about where my money goes. Over the years, I have done heaps of research, and have traded in some higher end products, for amazing alternatives that won’t break the bank. I keep all of these in my makeup collection and I love them – now it’s time to share them with you!

Australis Banana Powder – $14.95

I’ve spoken about this one before, it’s a must have. The powder originally hit the shelf with the AConTOUR contour kit, and despite the kit not being too popular with buyers, the banana powder was in hot demand. So much so, that Australis released a full sized banana powder for purchase… and it is amazing. If you’re looking for a powder that will brighten your under eyes and bring them to life, this is all you need and it will not let you down!

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent – $11.95

This is a good buy, and it is no surprise how many youtubers and beauty gurus rave about this powder!! If you’re looking for something affordable to lock in your makeup, then the Rimmel Stay Matte powder will do the trick. The translucent finish means you can pack on as much as you need to keep all your makeup in place, with no mess and no fuss. It’s also an awesome option for cleaning up any bronzer or contour that may have gone down a little too far.

Australis Fresh and Flawless Powder – $12.95

For something will a little extra colour and coverage, you cannot say no to the Australis Fresh and Flawless. These compact powders are brilliant to set your base down, while adding that little extra coverage. The best thing about this powder, is it also has enough colour to put down as a light coverage base, instead of foundation – which is what I do if I need something quick and easy!

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – $14.95

Easily my favourite concealer ever. It is so creamy and it glides on so easily. It has great coverage and brightens my under eye area so well. The fit me concealer hardly creases, and it’s a dream to work with. It works just as well (if not, better) than any high end concealer I’ve tried and I cannot recommend it enough.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer – $18.95

Another favourite of mine, I alternate between this and the Fit Me (I swear Maybelline SLAY the concealer game!!) The cushion applicator is its point of difference and it works incredibly well to tighten the under eye area. It creates a nice mask over your foundation, and won’t remove it. An awesome product.

NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick – $14.95

I find most drugstore liquid lipsticks don’t do enough for me. I find them either too drying, or crumbly, and have them balling up on my lips throughout a day’s wear. However, the NYX Liquid Suede is something else and I am not surprised at all that they were pretty much sold out upon launch in Australia. The colour range is great, with plenty wearable colours (and some bold ones for those daring enough) and they aren’t drying at all!! They won’t dry down completely matte however they are super long wearing, so you get the best of both worlds, really!

Australis Original Primer – $14.95

I sometimes find it hard to understand what I do and don’t like in a primer, but what I do know is the Australis Primer is popular for good reason. It’s nice and hydrating, giving my face a great feel before laying on the foundation and powders and it keeps my makeup on and looking fresh the whole day. I love it!!

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer – $29.95

This is such a brilliant bronzer, I cannot speak of it enough (that’s probably the reason it’s always sold out). It’s a perfect colour to bronze with, and won’t leave your cheeks looking chunky and muddy. It has a super rich and buttery feel and will leave your skin glowing and feeling fabulous. It is a little pricier than your other drugstore items, but it is certainly worth it.

L’oreal Infallible Matte Foundation – $29.95

Everything you find in a high end foundation, you find it in the L’oreal Infallible. It’s full coverage, long lasting and blends easy on the skin… without the high price tag! I prefer the matte finish – I find it wears better and lasts longer.
