Best summer scents
There’s nothing better than knowing that you smell absolutely irresistible especially in these warmer months when buckets of sweat are likely to be streaming off your body. So we have gone on a mission to smell and report some of the best summery scents to accompany (and hopefully block out) the smell of sweat. Being summery scents we haven’t included really bold, heavy perfumes, but rather something light which you would love to wear on that tropical holiday to Bali.
Jo Malone freesia and English pear and freesia – available at Myer/David Jones – $95 30ml
You could honestly pick any scent from the Jo Malone range to be in a summer perfume list, however this one has a special place in our hearts. It is sweet, fresh, floral and absolutely divine, evoking images of dancing in a field next to a body of water gleaming in the sun…or that may just be me. It has notes of English pears, white freesia, patchouli, woods and amber making it a bundle of beauty. No matter what this is a gorgeous scent, and although it’s a bit on the pricey side it is well worth every dollar.
Chloè fleur de parfum– available at Sephora/Myer/David Jones – $105 50ml
A definitive favourite of many around the globe is Chloè which is a beautiful floral blend of peony, rose, honey and cedar wood. Just the right amount of fresh and sweet to be a show stopping summer scent. It’s crazy how scent can evoke memories, because when I’m smelling this it just transports me to a little restaurant in France in the summer…
Tom Ford Neroli Portofino – available at Sephora/Myer/David Jones – $225 50ml
With Portofino in the title of the perfume you already know that it’s going to smell like an Italian summer in a bottle, but you may not understand just how gorgeous it really is. It has notes of Tunisian Neroli, Italian Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon, Winter Yellow Mandarin, Orange Flower and Lavender which when combined honestly smells like a decadent rich movie star from Italy is standing right in front of you. Yes, this is definitely a bit on the pricey side, as is most of Tom Ford’s products, however we have to admit all the products are of such a luxurious and amazing quality that it’s well worth it. Plus the aqua bottle is to die for.
Marc Jacobs Daisy – available at Myer/David Jones/Sephora – $80 50ml
I’m sure that you have all heard or smelt this fragrance at one point or another, but if not it is a highly popular and beautiful fragrance with key notes of strawberry, violet leaves, jasmine and white woods. The distinct flower bottle will add a little fun to your dresser, while the scent will stay with you all day and wrap you up in the world of a florally summer!
The body shop white musk – available at you guessed it, the body shop – $49.95 50ml
Some may argue this isn’t exactly a ‘summer’ scent per se, however I have not gotten so many compliments in my life with another perfume, let’s just say it defies the seasons. It is light, fresh and sensuous without being overpowering, and really can be worn in any situation plus it won’t break the bank. It has key notes of musk, lily, iris, rose and vanilla which makes for a beautiful combination which is always in style.
Tom Ford soleil blanc – available at Sephora/Myer/David Jones – $225 50ml
Sorry, another pricey Tom Ford perfume…But it’s such a summery scent that I couldn’t leave it out. Unlike the other Tom Ford perfume this one has notes of bergamot, cardamom oil orpur, pistachio accord, ylang ylang comores islands, benzoin extract orpur and coco de mer accord, or as I like to describe it a sensuous coconut heaven of sorts. It has these luxuriously fresh smell and although it does smell like coconut and sea-salt it doesn’t smell like you’ve slapped on some reef tan coconut oil at the beach and burnt to a crisp.
Citrus verbena – available from L’occitane – $73 100ml
If a citrus rush is what you’re after in a perfume then please, look no further. Here we have an utterly fresh and radiant fragrance, with organic verbena and citrus fruits for a dazzling finish. It truly is fresh and light, so if heavy or strong perfume isn’t your thing then definitely give this one a little spritz.
