Bianka Brunner Interview
This week, as part of our “Spring Series” we are speaking with Bianka Brunner around Spring trends in beauty and her amazing business.
Where are you based and what beauty services do your provide?
I am based from Brisbane, Gold Coast to Byron bay with reach to Newcastle & Sydney. Being freelance gives me the freedom to be booked anywhere.
What is the background to setting up your business, and what’s your point of difference?
This is my 6th year out of studying my diploma of specialist makeup. I have always been a traveller, so for me to be able to freelance has been the best thing. Most of my bookings are word of mouth recommendations which is amazing.
My point of difference is being able to really listen and envision what my client wants and also to ensure it will suit their needs and wants. I’m real and honest as an artist and a person, so I feel it shows in the way I hold myself and my business and reflects in my work.
The stories I hear from clients from their past experiences with some makeup artists is mostly bad so I feel I can change the perception of the “colour by numbers” and give them confidence in not only themselves but me as well. I also love to encourage my clients to step out of their comfort zone by trying
a colour or product they haven’t before. I love teaching and sharing tips and tricks to help them with their own makeup skills
What’s your personal backgrounds and qualifications and how does that help your clients?
I love art and always have, so while I was still at school I was thinking of all the creative things I could do, and most were unrealistic at the time and make up was something I didn’t really wear or know how to do, but after a student careers event I came home with a flyer for make up artistry and it felt right.
I got a full time job in pharmacy but was always in the cosmetics isle playing with anything I could. Once I finished by studies, I started my freelance business doing weddings and photoshoots, in Newcastle & Sydney. I got bored of newcastle after traveling and decided to move to the Gold Coast. I then worked for MAC and now Sephora and both companies have given me so much training, growth and opportunity and always helping me stay up to date with new trends and products to share with my clients which is so important. I still continued freelancing which I love! You never know everything and that’s what I love about the makeup industry, it’s constantly changing and growing. I am proud to be able to give my clients the most on trend looks and also share new techniques. I have had some offers to set up in salons etc but I have plans of my own so watch this space.
What’s your beauty philosophy?
Beauty is about enhancing what you have, a beautiful makeup needs a beautiful base to build from so a good skincare routine is a MUST!
Less is more and never stop learning.
What’s trending in beauty this Spring?
“Draping” blush so using it to softly sculpt the face instead of contouring.
Glitter and metals are in for that pop of sparkle on lips or eyes. The minimalist look is in with soft focus on the face and one strong focus whether it’s lips or eyes. Berry toned lipsticks, Korean beauty is very on trend at the moment.
What’s your 1 hot beauty tip for clients in Spring?
Keep your skin hydrated whether you freshen up with a hydrating spray or make up refresher and by using a water base foundation & primer with a damp beauty blender for extra hydration, it all starts with a beautiful complexion.
How do you personally find beauty everyday?
I’m obsessed to be completely honest! I live and breath it and after 6 years my passion is only getting stronger. I’m constantly learning and looking for new must haves to share with clients and friends. I believe if you love what do you will never work a day in your life
What is your guilty pleasure?
Spending half of my wage on new make up that I don’t “need”!!
How do clients get in touch?
My website has everything to get in touch whether it’s my email or social media links
