Prepping Your Skin for a Big Event

Nothing boosts your confidence more than having a clear and glowing complexion, particularly when you’ve got an important event approaching. Here at Beautifinda we have compiled our top 5 tips so you can put your best face forward for any occasion.

Tip #1: Maintain your routine

One of the biggest mistakes you can make in the weeks or days before an important event is changing up your skincare routine. You can never be sure how your skin is going to react to new products, which could result in breakouts or reactions. Instead, stick to the routine you know works for you and avoid trying any different products at least a week before. A simple cleanse, tone and moisturise regime is a great place to start for a clear complexion. If you feel like giving your skin a little TLC, opt for a mild exfoliation or a facemask you have used before and know won’t leave you with redness or blemishes.

Tip #2: Wear minimal makeup

Letting your skin breathe a few days before your event can really leave you with fresh feeling complexion. Wearing no makeup is the best, but if that’s not possible for you, try switching up your foundation for a lighter option such as a BB cream or tinted moisturiser. This will allow your skin to suck up plenty of oxygen as well as keep your pores clear of any congestion, minimising the risk of any pesky last minute breakouts.

Tip #3: Treat your skin

If you really want dramatic differences, book yourself in for a facial with a dermatologist. Peels and deep cleans are great options for really getting to the crux of any concerns and will encourage cell turnover for a more youthful complexion. The skin expert will also be able to thoroughly analyse your skin type and recommend ways to improve problem areas, such as dehydration, excessive oil, breakouts or redness. However, these treatment can draw out impurities, often resulting in blemishes, so make sure you book your appointment at least one month before to ensure your skin has time to rebalance.

Tip #4: Don’t forget your eyes and lips

The chances are you will be wearing more eye makeup and lipstick for your event, so prepping these areas is very important to looking your best. Skipping on the eye cream can leave the delicate under eye area dehydrated, puffy or dark, as well as emphasise fine lines. Instead, smooth on eye cream morning and evening, as part of your regular routine. Similarly, dry, cracked lips are going to be highlighted by lipstick, so make sure you have a great canvas to begin. Gently exfoliate your lips with a scrub (brown sugar mixed with coconut oil is a great DIY option) and lather on a hydrating lip balm a few times a day. This will ensure you have a beautiful base and make your features pop!

Tip #5: Cleanse from the inside out

You would have heard it dozens of times before, but a balanced diet and adequate water intake really are essential to healthy, clear skin. Avoid processed, sugary and high fat foods and instead opt for healthier alternatives: boost your skins moisture with omega-3 and 6 rich foods, including oily fish, chia seeds and nuts or nibble on some almonds and sunflower seeds, which are packed with skin-living vitamin E. Other options include orange foods like mango and pumpkin (high in vitamin A), lentils, beans and lean meats (zinc) and avocado and olive oil (monounsaturated fatty acids). Couple these with plenty of fresh fruit and veggies and lots of water, and you’ll literally glow from the inside out!
