Tahlia Jayde Interview
This week, as part of our “Spring Series” we are speaking with Tahlia Jayde around Spring trends in beauty.
Where are you based and what beauty services do your provide?
I have a studio base in both Perth and Melbourne. Currently I am Melbourne based and I have 2 incredible artists Simone and Elona in Perth that take on my clients in my absence.
The girls offer makeup services for all occasions and I offer my clients both makeup and hairstyling services. I run workshops also.
What is the background to setting up your business, and what’s your point of difference?
Originally in Perth my best friend Adriana (a crazy talented hairdresser) and I decided to join forces so we could offer both makeup and hair under the one roof. We have a similar style and strong attention to detail so once we did that it just grew from there.. We had this concept long before they started popping up everywhere so at the time that was our point of difference as it wasn’t common to find two passionate artists working together and creating all the on-trend looks whilst at the same time being able to give our clients a more intimate one on one feel with all attention on them.
2 years on life happened and we both needed change and a challenge so I relocated to Melbourne, Adriana relocated to Adelaide and we both have 2 girls each who look after our original and new clients as we fly back and forth.. Who knows, Sydney and Brisbane could be next?!
What’s your personal background and qualifications and how does that help your clients?
I started studying when I was in year 11 and am qualified in Makeup Artistry, Hairstyling and also hold my diploma in beauty therapy. I also did a lot of workshops and still try to do them when I can. You can never stop learning! I find workshops much more inspiring.
Now that I run my own workshops I even learn off my clients. Its funny they think they have no idea what they’re doing but they actually educate me! I am so passionate about what I do and whilst being creative is such a blessing education plays a big role in being able to deliver this to your clients the best possible way.
What’s your beauty philosophy?
Less is more. Makeup should be used to enhance your natural beauty.
What’s trending in beauty this Spring?
It’s all about the flawless, effortless, dewy no makeup – makeup look.
The non-touring instead of contouring. And gloss is back! -Thank god (no more dry lips). There’s also a lot of glitter around too which is fun.
For hair the shorter/mid length cuts styled with lots of effortless texture.
What’s your 1 hot beauty tip for clients in Spring?
Skin is in!! Invest in some good products to ensure your skin stays nice and hydrated. This also means you will have to do less work with your makeup. My favourite product at the moment is Luna sleeping night oil by Sunday Riley.
How do you personally find beauty everyday?
I try to stay as grateful and positive as I can. Beauty is not always realized through a life-changing moment. I’ve learnt to appreciate beauty is everywhere and it’s important to make the things and people you love a priority. I find going for long scenic walks preferably around water super relaxing. I also love reformer Pilates, it’s the best thing for me to zone out instead of getting caught up with my never-ending emails and to-do lists.
What is your guilty pleasure?
A good glass of red! And Greek frozen yogurt.
