Workout bag beauty essentials
By Celina Mahoney
A regular exercise routine is essential for a healthy mind, body and soul. But just because you’re hitting the gym, it doesn’t mean your beauty routine should go out the window. We have compiled a list of must-have’s for your bag to keep you fresh and confident every time you workout.
One of the most important things to have in your gym bag is a packet of good quality face wipes. If left on your face, sweat and oil can block pores and cause nasty breakouts. By giving your face a thorough wipe over at the end of your workout, this can be significantly reduced. Although wipes are no substitute for a good quality cleanser, they are a great option to keep your skin fresh before you make it to the shower.

While it might seem obvious, deodorant is a must have for any gym bag. But are you using the right one? The skin under your arms is super sensitive, and many cheap deodorants are filled with harsh chemicals than can cause irritation. Opting for an effective, yet gentle deodorant that doesn’t contain any nasties (including parabens and aluminium) will keep you smelling fresh without harming your delicate skin.
Innoxa Aluminium Free Roll on Deodorant ($6.99 at Priceline)
The best option when working out is no makeup, but if you feel like you want a little coverage then a tinted moisturiser can be a great alterative. The lighter formula won’t block your pores like a medium-full coverage foundation, allowing your skin to breathe as you work up a sweat. Plus, after your workout it is easy to smooth on (after wiping your face of course!), meaning you’ll be looking super fresh for your post-gym coffee!
Natio Tinted Moisturiser SPF20 ($18.95 at Priceline)
There’s no excuse for messy brows, even if you are at the gym! A brow mascara is a great option to keep your hairs in place and help you look a little put together while working out. Just a quick swipe through each side and you’ll be looking great and feeling extra confident without the hassle of pencils and powders.
L’Oreal Paris Brow Artist Plumper ($18.95 at Priceline)
When working up a sweat, people often tend to lick their lips a little more often, which can be very drying! Having a hydrating lip balm in your bag for some post-gym TLC can help to avoid dry, chapped lips. Plus opting for something with a tint can also be a bonus to help you look polished for any errands you need to run after your workout.
Burt’s Bees Naturally Tinted Lip Balm in Rose ($12.99 at Priceline)
There’s nothing worse than flat post-workout hair or frizzy fly-aways, so having a hairbrush in your gym bag is a must! Brushing your hair into a sleek pony after the gym will look effortlessly fresh. You’ll be more hot, than hot-mess in seconds!
Tangle Teezer Original Panther Black ($29.99 at Priceline)
Shampoo & Conditioner
If you’re the type that likes to shower at the gym after your session, then taking your own shampoo and conditioner is very important! Often gyms provide toiletries, but these are likely to be cheap alternatives. Plus after sweating and tying your hair up, it deserves some special treatment! Grab some salon quality travel hair care to pop in your bag to keep your locks in tiptop condition.
